CK Help-text: TEXT file of CK help. Print with any word processor.
SampleCheckBook: Example CK document.
Read Me: This document; a TEXT file.
CK File Structure: A TEXT file that describes the format of CK document files.
If you received CK on disk, you may also have received the following 2 files:
CKDocWord.cpt: A self-extracting Compactor archive of CK docs in WORD 4 format.
CKDocMW.cpt: A self-extracting Compactor archive of CK docs in MacWrite format.
To use either of these files, copy them to hard disk, or backup floppy, then double-click on either one. This will create one or the other of the CK documentation files described below.
CK Docs-Word4 is a Microsoft WORD v 4.0 document. It includes many illustrations and CK screen-shots.
CK Docs-MW is a MacWrite format file. It was created with Microsoft WORD, and can be opened by any word-processor that is compatible with the MacWrite format.
To open either of these files with your word-processor, start the word processor application itself, by double-clicking its icon. Double-clicking the CK Docs file icons will not start your word-processor! Once you have started your word-processor, select the ╥Open╙ command from the ╥File╙ menu, and select the CK Docs file you wish to read.
CK Docs-Word and CK Docs-MW require about 35 pages to print.
If you received CK in some form that does not include the documentation files, they are available from user╒s groups or online services. DO NOT send disks to the author; I cannot guarantee their return.
The manual describes the CK 2.0 help function, where help info was obtained in the programs ╥About╙ box. The CK online help function has changed in versions 2.1 and later. Now there is a separate ╥Help╙ command under the Apple menu. Selecting this command brings up a movable help window. You can keep this window on the desktop as you work, or put it away by clicking its close box.
The help window contains a list of help topics. To see the info on a topic, either double-click the topic, or highlight it, then press [Enter] or click the ╥See Topic╙ button. Help info appears in the scrollable text box at the top of the window.
Previous versions of CK used a separate help file. In the present version, help information is included in the CK application file.
The present release of CK includes the following new features:
Ñ Running Balance in Reconcile View
The listing of entries in the Reconcile view now includes the Balance Forward to each entry. This balance is recalculated after every operation that affects the amount of an entry, or the order of entries.
Ñ Option-Key while moving from Reconcile to Make Entries View
Holding down the option key while moving from the Reconcile View to the Make Entries view will cause the first selected entry in the Reconcile View to become the current entry in the Make Entries view. With this feature you can browse through entries by scrolling the Reconcile View, then bring up the Make Entries view at a desired entry for editing.
Ñ Speed-Ups
Sorting operations have been speeded-up significantly.
There will probably be no subsequent releases of CK. I hope making this admission does not discourage anyone from registering their use of the program. CK is very reliable. As a program it is nearly 4 years old, and in all that time there have been no reports of any significant program failures, and NO loss of data. For what it does, CK is an excellent product, and, I feel, worth every penny of the $15 registration fee.
